SPORTS fans in Worcester will have the chance to enjoy a ‘night at the races’ in the comfort of the University of Worcester Arena next month.

The annual event, a joint fundraiser held this year to raise money for the University’s Scholarship Fund and for Worcester Live, will be sponsored by local florists Floral Roundabout.

Racegoers will be able to bet on an eight-race card, with a series of prizes available throughout the evening.

Tickets for the event, which takes place on Friday, May 16, cost £15, which includes supper.

A table for ten can be booked at the reduced price of £135.

Muff Murfin, chairman of the Worcester Live board of directors and a fellow of the university, said: “Previous Race Nights have been hugely successful, and we’re hoping that plenty of racing fans will join us for this year’s event in the fantastic surroundings of the new University Arena.

“Races will be shown on a big screen and guests can place bets, just as they would if they were at the races themselves.

"Prizes and money will be up for grabs throughout the evening, the bar facilities will be open and a fish and chip supper is included in the price of the ticket.”

All proceeds from the evening will go to the University’s Scholarship Fund, which provides financial support to students and ensures that concerns over student debt do not deter students from coming to Worcester to pursue their goals; and to Worcester Live, the main arts provider in the city.
