VOLUNTEERS braved the weather on Saturday to give a Worcestershire village a much-needed makeover.
Led by a team from the Worcestershire County Council’s highways contractor Ringway, the group took to the streets of Martley to widen a footpath, realign a safety barrier, clean signs and reflective bollards and trim hedges and verges as well as pain a bus shelter and generally clean up the village.
This was the first in a series of similar works across the county agreed when Ringway was again awarded the highways contact for another six and a half years earlier this year.
The company’s regional divisional manager Dave Rowley said: “As a company, Ringway is extremely keen to assist with local community projects, charities and good causes and I am delighted that six of our dedicated staff gave up their Saturday to spend time working in Martley.
“The feedback has been very positive and the parish is looking much cleaner and smarter now.”
Malvern Hills district councillor Barbara Williams said the team had done a “fantastic” job.
“I am really grateful for what they achieved, especially considering the weather,” she said.
“The operatives kept forging ahead regardless of the rain and I am sure I can speak on behalf of the residents of Martley by thanking Ringway very much for what you have done for the village.”
Ringway has been running highways services in the county since 2005.
