FEET were tapping, shopping bags were swinging and a few were singing along as everybody cut footloose on the High Street on Saturday.

A group from WODYS, Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section, treated the city's shoppers to a sneak peak from their show Footloose which will be staged at Swan Theatre from Tuesday, August 5 to Saturday, August 9.

The talented cast of 70 youngsters, aged nine to 18, drew crowds old and young as they performed a range of singing, dancing and acting pieces from the show.

The whole company performed a lively version of the title song Footloose together with the more sedate On Any Sunday.

Standing eight-feet tall, cowboy stilt walker John Parnell helped to hand out leaflets for the show.

Matt Emeny, as Reverend Shaw, captivated passers-by as he performed Heaven Help Me while Jack Cashion and Rosie Mountjoy, as the teenagers Ren with his girlfriend Ariel, performed an emotional duet of Almost Paradise.

Footloose, which originally starred Kevin Bacon in the film version, is set in the 1980s and tells the story of Ren McCormack, an upbeat Chicago teen who moves to a small town in the USA where, as a result of the efforts of a local minister, dancing and rock music have been banned.

The show includes a great number of foot-tapping 80s anthems which will be sure to entertain the whole family.

Tickets are available on 01905 611427.
