TWENTY-four cats were looking for new homes at a rehoming day held at the Lower Wick cattery on Sunday.

The event at the Teme Acre Cattery, Old Road, also the RSPCA Worcester and Mid Worcestershire branch, aimed to encourage people to think about adopting a cat as a new pet.

Currently the cattery rents 20 pens and has 24 cats needing homes all either black or black and white ranging in age from eight months to 14 years, and many more on the waiting list.

Pam Brooker, branch secretary, said they needed more people to come forward and adopt these cats.

"It's quite dire at the moment for cats," she said. "We have five more cats being held at the vets waiting for space here at the moment.

"Quite often the inspector goes to a house and needs to rehome more than one cat. It's a struggle and these kind of events are essential for us.

"People are also not microchipping their cats.

"We have loads of black cats as they take a lot longer to rehome."

Another event raising money for the charity will take place over the weekend of the Saturday and Sunday, September 27 and 28.

ARK Fest, standing for acts of random kindness, will see music gigs taking place across Malvern over the weekend.
