HER secret to a long life remains the same, a tot of whisky before bed, and it seems to be doing wonders for Worcestershire's oldest resident Grace Jones.

The 108-year-old celebrated her birthday today with a meal at Buckland Manor near her home village of Broadway.

It was the second of three celebratory events for the latest milestone birthday in Mrs Jones' life - a birthday which makes her the 73rd oldest person in the UK.

She is known to her friends as "amazing Grace" and Mrs Jones, of Pegasus Court in Broadway, continues to impress those around her with her vitality.

And she maintains her key to a long life is a daily drink of whisky, which she has been taking before bed for the last 58 years although her daughter and son-in- law Deirdre and Patrick McCarthy said they have yet to get to find out how much she drinks each night.

"I never miss it," she said. "I don't drink and all I have is the whisky at night. Whisky is very good for you. He (the doctor) said keep up with the whisky Grace, it's good for your heart."

"I feel fine," added Mrs Jones, who was born in Liverpool before moving to Derbyshire and then on to Worcestershire. "I feel full of spirit. I have got five cards from the Queen now. This year's was a very nice one.

"I have received lots of nice cards and presents this year and they are still coming in.

"We will be here next year as well."
