IT IS time to pack away the short sleeved tops and shorts as the unseasonably good weather makes way for ex-Hurricane Gonzalo.

It will be a rude awakening for people in Worcestershire who have been enjoying a warm October as high winds and showers are on the way.

The MET office has issued a yellow warning for strong winds overnight and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday) as gusts of up to 50mph are expected.

Worcestershire Highways team are on standby and have already put in extra gulley emptying gangs and tree contractors are also ready to be called on if needed.

Ian Michaelwaite, from Netweather.tv based in Pershore, said this year we had been experiencing a warm autumn which will make the storm feel much worse.

"We are not used to having autumn storms this year so when pretty standard autumn weather comes our way, which is pretty regular for this time of year, it is going to feel more exceptional.

"People are going to be looking back to last year and how it excelled and going to have a feeling of déjà vu.

"From tonight (Monday) winds will be increasing, they will be coming from the west at about 40 to 50mph gusts until the early hours.

The bad news is the rain is going to pick up around rush hour so between 6am and 10am with winds up to 50mph.

"It is going to feel higher in higher grounds and wind tunnels.

"They will feel a bit more blustery and, rather than torrential rain, there will be showers.

"We should avoid any issues with it and there shouldn't be anything more then a typical blustery day which is normal for mid-October.

"There will be some sunny spells but the big difference compared to the weekend id the temperature which has been ridiculously mild.

"We can expect temperatures of about 11C and during the school run their will be more showers so it will feel around 6 to 7C.

"It's a typical October day with a bit of rain and a bit of wind but the big difference this year is that we've not had the winds to take the leaves off the trees so we're going to see a lot of leaves blowing around which will make things look worse than they are and could also block drains and gulleys."

There was some good news as the weather is expected to clear up by Tuesday evening and Wednesday with the temperature creeping up to around 12/13C.

"It will feel a lot more pleasant and will be the right kind of weather for this time of year."
