A bus user is calling out for greater traffic measures near a public school, claiming parked cars cause obstructions to the route.

Wendy Caversham says the 355 bus is "constantly" getting stuck on School Bank, in Claines, due to cars parked on the road during Claines Primary School open times and people visiting Claines Church, and wants to see yellow lines implemented to stop cars blocking the road.

The 66 year-old of Westfield Close said: "I use this bus to go into towns for appointments, and the usual things people visit the town for, but this has been going for a while now. The bus drivers themselves have said they are getting fed up of it too.

"This route travels from Fernhill Heath to Claines, which means passing the school. If people only stayed on the road for 40 minutes at a time, there would be enough space, but they don't so buses are constantly getting stuck down there. I've had enough it, and people in the village feel the same way too.

"We want to see traffic controlled better, so using the bus is a lot easier. We need yellow lines, it's simple enough."

Despite being contacted, LMS Travel- the company which runs the bus service- was unavailable for comment on the matter.

The county council has pledged to combat the issue.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: "The council is aware of the congestion issues on School Bank which has affected the operation of a school bus service.

"The school bus is currently diverting along Claines Lane and the A449 between Fernhill Heath and Cornmeadow Lane and the Council will be meeting with the operator, LMS Travel, next week with a view to formalising this revised route on a longer-term basis to avoid the issues on School Bank."

Miss Caversham says the situation has led to cars being scratched in the past, as buses try to squeeze past.

She said: "There have been cases of buses getting stuck, and use a different route to get past, usually travelling down Droitwich Road. They shouldn't have to do this, but the driver didn't want to damage the parked cars or the bus.

"That's happened before, there have been times where people's cars have been scratched.

"There is one instance I can remember where a bus got stuck in the road, and it went on for so long, that two people got off to walk.

"What if there was an emergency, no one would be able to help as the road would be grid-locked.

"All that needs to happen is to stop the bigger vehicles parking on the road all day."
