A RESIDENT of Leigh Sinton Road, just outside Malvern, is calling for speed limits to be enforced after three cars parked at his home were wrecked in a single crash.

David Barrie said his family was still in shock after the crash last Friday night which damaged all their cars.

A blue Skoda Octavia being driven along the B4503 between Malvern and Leigh Sinton left the road shortly before 11pm and hit a white Toyota Carina.

This in turn hit a blue VW Polo and a red VW Golf, pushing them into the side of Mr Barrie's house at Interfields Cottages.

Mr Barrie said: "The Polo and the Toyota are both written off and the other car is damaged as well. My 99-year -old mother is very upset because she's had the Toyota for years and I drive her around in it. The car was her pride and joy and she is devastated."

This week Mr Barrie posted a home-made sign on the wreck of the Toyota to warn passing motorists and called on Worcestershire County Council to take action.

"No one was injured on Friday, but someone could easily be killed along here," he said.

He said that before they moved into this house at 2006, they were unaware how fast some people drove along the road.

He said: "We campaigned to get it reduced, after speeds of over 90mph were recorded by the council, and it became 40mph two years ago."

However, the speed restrictions do not seem to have alleviated the problem. He said: "This road is still a racetrack. I often get honked by following cars for having the nerve to slow and turn off into my drive. Our post woman agrees that drivers honk you for slowing to turn into the layby. Even on Monday I saw a car veer off the road and mount the verge before correcting and returning to the carriageway."

He said that in August another car left the road at almost exactly the same place, hitting one of the 40mph signs. He said: "On this occasion the young man only lives two miles away, and after the crash told my wife and I he thought the speed limit was 60 mph. From where he lives, he would have passed four 40mph signs before he crashed."

A police spokesman said yesterday the that driver has not been arrested, as he had he was not been under the influence of alcohol, no-one had been injured and his insurance was in order. It is not yet known if further action will be taken.

Cllr John Raine, who represents the Trinity ward on Worcestershire County Council, said he had contacted the highway department as soon as he had heard of the crash.

He said: "Speeding along this road between Malvern and Leigh Sinton is definitely a problem. There are restrictions of 30mph and 40mph, but people come out of the Malvern built-up area and put their foot down. The same thing happens at the Leigh Sinton end, making it a problem for people coming out from the side roads.

"I have asked for one of the vehicle-activated mobile speed signs to be placed here, and I've been told it will be put in place as soon as possible.

"Something has to change, because this is a problem caused by bad driver behaviour."
