A MALVERN woman has proved she is made of tough stuff after she made it out of a "zombie apocalypse" in one piece.

Megan Oxtoby, aged 20, has featured in BBC Three gameshow I Survived a Zombie Apocalypse for the last eight weeks.

The gameshow is set six months into a zombie outbreak, and participants have to survive in an abandoned shopping centre, taking part in tasks and having to work together as a team.

Miss Oxtoby, who works on the checkouts at Waitrose in Great Malvern, was one of three to "survive" the outbreak, meaning she won a dream holiday to the Maldives for two weeks.

"It was such an amazing experience and I feel so lucky that I was chosen to take part. Surviving the apocalypse has made me into a stronger person, I now believe in myself a lot more," she said.

“Not many people can say they have been in a zombie apocalypse and I wanted to prove to everyone that I’m tougher than I look.

“A lot of people look at me and just think I’m a little girl, so I wanted the chance to show myself in that situation."

Although Miss Oxtoby said she found the experience "terrifying", the former Dyson Perrins High School student said she would be up for round two.

"When I was in the compound I thought I would never want to do anything zombie related again, but if there was a second series I would definitely be up for it.

"My most terrifying moment on the show was when I was in the super market, as that was my first mission and also the first death. It felt very real from then onwards. The whole experience made all the terrifying parts worth it though. And I will never forget the incredible feeling of being rescued. I was so happy being flown away to safety in that helicopter.

"The holiday was amazing. I spent most of the time snorkelling in the sea. It was a beautiful island, I'm very grateful for everything and feel incredibly lucky."
