POLICE in Droitwich are warning residents not to leave anything in their cars after a spate of thefts from motor vehicles around the town, all taking place on the same night.

The incidents all occurred overnight between Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27 with a variety of items taken from five different cars around Droitwich.

At some point between 7pm on March 26 and 8.10am on March 27 a silver Honda Civic was broken into on Portland Road, and a jacket was taken along with a holdall containing martial arts equipment,

A second incident occurred nearby on Greenbank at some point between 12.30am and 7am on March 27, when a silver Ford Escort was broken into on a driveway, and a satellite navigation system worth £70 was stolen.

On the western side of Droitwich in Westacre, at some point between 10.30pm on March 26 and 8.30am on March 27, a red Ford Focus parked on a drive in Leigh Grove, was broken into, and laptop, iPhone 3GS and an external hard drive were all taken from the car boot.

Further south in Chawson, at some point between 7.30pm on March 26 and 8am on March 27, a silver Ford Cougar parked in a driveway in Clee View overnight had a Garmin satellite navigation system worth £150, and £60 worth of CDs stolen from it.

Finally, at some point between 10.30pm on March 26 and 7am on March 27, a black Ford Ranger, parked on a driveway in Witton Avenue was entered, and a pair of sunglasses worth £200 were stolen, along with a Bosch professional SDS drill worth £100, and a cordless Bosch drill and cordless Makita drill, worth £100.

Police believe that since all of the incidents occurred around a relatively small area during the course of one night they may well be linked. There was no sign of forced entry to any of the vehicles involved in the thefts, and police are warning people to take care with their belongings.

Sergeant Sarah Kent from the Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood team, said: “Please ensure that you lock your vehicle and remove all valuables. Don’t even leave them out of sight in the boot. Once someone has broken into your car they’re no longer concealed.”
