A MAN has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after a shutter door landed on him at an industrial unit in Malvern this morning.
Although paramedics were called to the scene in Sparrowhawk Close at about 11am, it quickly became apparent the man’s injuries were serious and called for an air ambulance.
An airborne team from Strensham was dispatched, followed by a second from RAF Cosford.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, the crews were told that the man, who was in his 40s, had been struck by the roller shutter and had been trapped under it.
“Colleagues rescued him from underneath using a forklift truck but he had suffered significant chest injuries.
“He was sedated and then anaesthetised at the scene before being airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham by the Cosford aircraft with the doctor on board.
“Airlifting him meant he was able to get to specialist care in just 12 minutes.”
It is not known if the man is an employee at the industrial unit.
