A TREE in the centre of Worcester was thoughtlessly snapped in half some time over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Your Worcester News has been sent pictures by reader Kofil Uddin, showing the tree in the High Street near the Guildhall has been snapped about half way up its trunk - despite being surrounded by a wire mesh intended to stop just that from happening.
Although it is not known when the vandalism took place, it is believed to have happened some time over the Bank Holiday weekend.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesman said: "Our highways officers will inspect the trees in Worcester High Street and take advice from our arborculturalist before undertaking any action to remedy the situation."
A West Mercia Police spokesman said they had not received a report of the incident. Worcester City Council is believed to be reviewing CCTV of the area to see if a culprit can be identified.
This is not the first time one of the trees - which were planted in 2013 as part of a £700,000 revamp of the High Street - has been targeted by vandals. Last December your Worcester News reported a pair of drunken vandals had been caught on CCTV snapping two trees in the High Street
