A TEENAGER is due to appear in court today after being charged in connection with a crash which left four people needing hospital treatment.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear before Worcester Magistrates Court today.

Emergency services were called to Tunnel Hill in Worcester at 10.20am last Thursday following reports of a collision involving a car and another parked car, which in turn hit a wall, narrowly missing two elderly women who were nearby.

Four people were taken to hospital for treatment, although their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Last week West Mercia Police declined to confirm that the Mondeo was being pursued by officers at the time of the collision, but a statement suggested that that was the case.

A spokesman said: “A collision took place on Tunnel Hill at 10.20am involving a blue Fiat Panda and a blue Ford Mondeo. The road was closed until 3.20pm.

“Immediately before the collision, the Ford Mondeo was requested to stop by police but failed to do so.

“As is usual practice, this incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

“The four people injured as a result of the collision did not receive serious injuries.

“The police vehicle was not involved in the collision.

“In connection with the incident, a 17-year-old male from Worcester was arrested and subsequently charged with dangerous driving, obstructing and resisting a constable in execution of duty and other motor offences.”

Two elderly women who had been chatting over the garden wall when the cars smashed in to it had a “lucky escape”, according to neighbours.

Maureen Crowther said she was in her house when she heard the crash outside.

“I came downstairs and went to the front garden gate where I saw one of my neighbours sat in the road,” she said.

“She was sat there with blood pouring from her head, with her shopping all over the road."
