TEMPORARY traffic lights in Sidbury that held up commuters trying to get in and out of Worcester this morning should not have been there.
A spokesman for the Highways department said the work had been scheduled for Sunday and had given Severn Trent Water permission to put temporary lights up with the proviso that they be removed at 4pm when the work was completed.
The spokesman said the department had been informed this morning that the lights were still in place and was to approach the water company immediately to have them removed.
A spokesperson for Severn Trent said: “We’re pleased to announce that the work on London Road, Sidbury in Worcester has now finished and contractors will be out within the next couple of days, as scheduled, to remove the temporary traffic lights. We’d like to thank local residents for their patience during this time.”
Driver Timothy Evans posted this video of the coned-off part of London Road.
He complained: "This is going to cause major disruption to rush hour traffic on Monday morning!
"Why, why, why? Severn Trent show total disregard and contempt for the people of Worcester.
"There are NO roadworks. There was a small excavation in the pavement earlier on Sunday, but the road was closed so they could park their truck close to the work."
@worcesternews This is pointless! Traffic lights and cones for the sake of having them on London Road. pic.twitter.com/TvbXfiRrub
