A NURSE from Worcester is one of a team of nine from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham gearing up to run the Morrisons Great Birmingham Run to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia.

Jaclyn Smith, 30, of Battenhall, and her running mates all work on blood cancer ward 625 at the hospital and administer some of the treatments made possible by funds raised for the charity.

They are set to join team Cure Leukaemia for the 13.1-mile half marathon on Sunday, October 18, at an event that has raised more than £200,000 for the charity in the last two years.

September is blood cancer awareness month and Jaclyn Smith, Kate Rogers, Laura Conway, Jennifer Slater, Rebecca Walker, Kiran Ali, Rachael Cooke, Mark Everitt and Melissa Magson are aiming to raise as much money as possible to benefit the patients they treat every day.

James McLaughlin, Cure Leukaemia’s chief executive, added: “It is fantastic to have such a strong team from the QE representing the charity in the Morrisons Great Birmingham Run.

"Our purpose as a charity is to help support and fund specialist research nurses who can then administer pioneering treatments to patients battling this terrible disease, so to have a team of nine running this October will be a very proud moment for everyone associated with Cure Leukaemia.

"Please get behind these wonderful people and help raise vital funds that will help save lives.”
