A TWO-YEAR campaign to repair and restore a much-loved bell tower near Inkberrow has finished.

Work on the exterior of the 14th century tower at St Peter’s church in Abbots Morton has been completed– and the results have been praised as “superb”.

A public appeal to fund the project on the Grade I listed church, which dates back to the 12th century, received a massive response raising £45,000.

And now the group behind the successful appeal have issued a heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported the scheme.

Colin Pemberton, chairman of the Abbots Morton Bell Tower committee, said: “May we take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave generously to the appeal, either in money or time and effort supporting the fundraising events we staged.

“We eventually raised £45,000, enabling us to carry out a successful restoration which has been completed recently.

“The stonemasons and the architect have done a superb job in securing the tower for future generations.

“Anyone who wishes to visit our Grade I listed church near Inkberrow is more than welcome to do so.”

Stonemasons Ian and Becky Bishop, of Tewkesbury Conservation, carried out the work with support from architect John Middleton, of firm John C Goom in Evesham.
