THINKING caps will need to be donned for a Guinness World Record attempt at a St John's pub on Sunday night.

Brunswick Arms, on Malvern Road, will be joining forces with pubs across the country to take part in Pub Aid's attempt to break the record for largest multi-venue quiz.

At the moment the record is held by Oundle Macmillan Support Group which managed to get 2679 participants to take part in a quiz in February 2012.

For the attempt to be taken seriously the quiz has to be filmed and the participants counted in and out.

Money from entrance fees and a raffle will be donated to the Help Georgie campaign.

Landlord Chris Hankins said: "All the pubs will be starting the quiz at the same time and we have been allowed to raise money for whatever charity or cause we like.

"We chose Help Georgie because it is a campaign we've successfully supported before.

"There's an awful lot of hard work which will go into the night - we have to have the same questions, the whole thing has to be videoed and we will have a steward counting everyone in and out.

"We hold quite a popular and exciting quiz night normally on a Thursday night so hopefully this one will be just as popular."

The quiz has to start at 7.30pm sharp so Mr Hankins asked people to turn up at 6.30pm with teams between one and six people costing £2 per person.

Clare Gibbs, mum of three-year-old Georgie who will be having a selective dorsal rhizotomy to help her walk unaided, thanked Mr Hankins and his wife Kelly for the continued support.

"We live in St John's and all of the pubs and a lot of the people living in the area have shown us so much support.

"We have had great support from people all over the city but particularly around here which is lovely."

The Help Georgie campaign was launched amid fears the three-year-old would have to travel to America to have the life-changing operations or would need to pay for aftercare not provided on the NHS.

Last week, the family were given the date for the operation - Monday, February 22 - which will take place at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Her mum said: "Now the date is sinking in it is all starting to feel very scary, we are busy sorting out the family logistics of the operation.

"Right now Georgie is very busy doing her intensive two week programme, building strength for the operation."
