A COUPLE were woken in the night by a man who had broken into their home while under the influence of prescription drugs.

Andrew Beesty broke through a glass door to enter the couple's home, Worcester Magistrates Court was told.

Beesty, aged 40, of Avening Close, Warndon, Worcester pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage by destroying a pane of glass when he appeared in court on Friday.

John Cardiff, prosecuting, said just after midnight on December 3, Nicholas Richardson and his wife were woken up by banging and voices downstairs.

The police were called, and Mr Richardson discovered Beesty when he went into the kitchen.

When Mr Richardson asked Beesty what he was doing, he said he was "looking for his girls".

Mr Richardson sat with him and asked Beesty if he had stolen anything, but he did not reply.

Beesty was described as calm, and police arrived soon after when he was arrested.

Defending, David Ollivere described it as a curious case as Beesty had not been drinking, and was not under the influence of illegal street drugs, tests proving negative.

Mr Ollivere said the householder had noticed there was something not right with him, and the police had picked up on that fact.

He explained Beesty had been stressed from separating with his partner who had helped him with the plethora of prescription medication he was on, which was the reason for his behaviour in the incident.

Beesty was ordered by magistrates to abide by an imposed curfew, which mean for 24 weeks Beesty must remain indoors overnight at his Worcester home between 9pm and 7am.

Beesty was ordered to pay £120 compensation for the damage to the door, £135 criminal court charge and a victim surcharge of £60 - £315 in total.
