A DRAKES Broughton six-year-old has fought off competition to win the Worcester News' competition to name a baby donkey born earlier this year.

Brooke James, from Chestnut Close, suggested the newborn donkey should be called Snow White, or Snowy for short, inspired by the colour of her coat.

Her entry was selected from a wide range of suggestions and she was invited to meet the newly-named Snow White at her home in Suckley, near Malvern

Brooke's mum Emma James said: "We didn't expect to win at all. When we found out, I read the email to her and she shed a little tear. She was really excited.

"Brooke is really horse-mad. She has been horse riding for a year.

"She [Snow White] was super cute and the softest thing we have ever touched. I have totally fallen in love with donkeys after going there. It was a brilliant day."

Brooke, who goes to St Barnabas Church of England School in Drakes Broughton, added: "She was cute."

And the family have been invited back to see Snow White again during the summer, to see how she has grown.

Snow White was born at Acton Mill Care Farm in the early hours of Monday, January 24. She has a snowy white face and pale grey markings, and is the first foal born to parents Betty and Paddy at the farm.

Speaking just days after Snow White was born, care farm manager Matt Hooper said: "Our new addition is settling in really well. She’s staying close to mum in the barn, but has already had lots of visitors and we’re expecting many more."

Acton Mill Care Farm provides a variety of outdoor opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, patients with mental health issues, and children from local pupil referral units.
