THE city's newest Aldi store is set to open its doors for the first time next week - with prizes up for grabs.

The grand opening of the German supermarket will take place on Thursday, July 7 at 8am on Tybridge Street, St John's, Worcester in the former PC World unit.

Local Team GB hockey player Sally Walton, will take part in a grand ribbon cutting ceremony with Store Manager, Elisha Chambers on the opening morning.

To celebrate, the store will be handing out 100 golden envelopes containing special tickets to win a range of prizes including a Full HD Smart TV, Smart Phone, Rugged Mobile Phones, Men’s Premium Shavers and Bags of Aldi shopping to the first 100 people in the queue on opening day.

Aldi will be donating a range of products to St Clements Primary School, to help with their summer activities at the store opening.

The opening of the store has created 40 jobs in Worcester and Aldi is currently recruiting for a variety of roles including store assistant, stock assistant, apprentice and caretaker.

The store will be served by over 100 car parking spaces and will feature around 1,500 product lines.

It will be the city's second branch of the discount supermarket chain with the other based on Pheasant Street.

It will the second supermarket opening in the city in as many weeks with Waitrose on London Road preparing to open tomorrow (Thursday).
