A RETIRED driver from Worcester has walked the length of the Worcestershire Way to remember his wife who is living with dementia.

Dave Till, aged 67, raised more than £600 for St Richard’s Hospice by completing the 31 mile dawn-to-dusk walking challenge.

He was one of more than 130 walkers who took on the annual St Richard’s Worcestershire Way Walk on Friday, June 17.

Mr Till, from St John’s, completed the Bewdley to Malvern route in just ten hours and was the ninth walker to cross the finish line.

He said: “I have long been a supporter of St Richard’s and wanted to do something different to help them continue their valuable work.

“My wife Georgina has struggled with dementia for a number of years and so I also wanted to do something to remember her.

“I was very humbled by the fact that not one single person I asked to sponsor me said no, and I am delighted to have raised £606 for the hospice.”

Alison Parkes, the hospice’s senior fundraiser said: “It was a great event with team spirit and camaraderie amongst the walkers taking part.

“This year, the going was quite muddy after a week of heavy rain, and this added to the challenge.

“We are very grateful to Dave and all the other participants who completed the route and are raising funds to help us continue to care for patients at the end of their lives, and support their families.” St Richard’s Hospice helps patients living with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
