RESIDENTS of Martley flocked to support their village show and fete in the face of discouraging weather forecasts and an early-morning downpour of Saturday.

And despite wet conditions underfoot, organisers decided that the show must go on, and the event proved successful, as much of it was under cover.

In the village hall, proud residents lined up to exhibit their carefully-nurtured fruit, vegetables and flowers, alongside mouthwatering baked goods, jams and preserves, and handmade crafts.

Show secretary Sylvia Jeffries said: "We had 259 entries, which is very good and the quality was high. As we were inside the hall, were weren't much affected by the weather. There were people coming in and out all day."

And the rest of the show was not much affected by the weather, with visitors braving the occasional shower to enjoy the day.

Worcester Concert Brass provided the music, and there were fitness displays and Morris dancers to entertain showgoers.

Stalls sold a wide variety of goodies from fudge to jewellery to locally-made cider and lots more, while there was a kids' zone for younger visitors to enjoy.

Classic car enthusiasts brought out their vehicles, and there was also a dog show, with much-loved pets on display.

A spokesman for the show said: "Thanks to everyone who helped and all those who visited us. We didn't let the weather beat us."
