THOUSANDS of comic fans flocked to Worcester's first ever Comic Con.

The convention was held at the University of Worcester's Arena, on Hylton Road, on Sunday, (August 21), and attracted some big names from film and television.

Crowds of comic book lovers, who dressed up in various outfits of their favourite characters, stretched around the arena building before the event opened to the public at 10am.

They included Red Dwarf trio Chris Barrie, Robert Llewellyn and Hattie Hayridge, and the fifth Doctor Who, Peter Davison.

Star Wars actors attended including Dave Prowse who played Darth Vader, Jeremy Bullock who played Boba Fett, Alan Harris who played a number of different characters in the original films and Paul Warren, who appeared as Varmik in the latest Star Wars film, The Force Awakens.

Josef Altin, Pypar in Game of Thrones, Virginia Hey, best known for appearances in Farscape and Mad Max, and Julian Glover who has appeared in Game of Thrones, James Bond film For Your Eyes Only and Star Wars, also entertained the crowds posing for pictures and giving autographs.

Various merchandise and artwork was also on sale to the more than 3,000 visitors at the event across stalls set up in the arena.

Darren Price, one of those who attended the event, said: "It was such a massive turn out, all the tickets were sold out.

"People turned up on the day, and as people left they were allowed to enter.

"The show organisers were over the moon with the attendance and success of the show and are looking to make it a regular event after Worcester's great response."

Lee Wallis, one of the organisers, said: "Thank you to all that came, from attendees, guests, traders, crew and venue staff a big thank you to all.

"We hope you had a great time and have gone away with lots of goodies and happy memories.

"See you all next year at Worcester Comic Con 2017 - we will be back bigger and better."
