BURGLARS targeted the home of an elderly man from Norton, near Worcester, while he was out one evening.

The victim was leaving his home in Woodbury Lane at around 7.30pm on Sunday, August 14, when he was approached by a man who asked to borrow a tool to fix his broken-down vehicle.

The 86-year-old gave the man a tool and asked him to put it through the letterbox when he had finished.

As he left, the victim noticed a number of men arriving to fix the vehicle.

Around 45-minutes later, the man returned to his home and discovered that a person/s had forced entry into the rear of the building and a mobile phone was stolen.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Police are keen to speak to the men who were fixing the vehicle, a white flatbed vehicle carrying what appeared to be scrap metal, near to The Norton Retreat public house.

"Officers are also keen to speak to the occupants of a dark five-door old Volkswagen Golf with distinctive black wheels.

"It is thought these people may have information that could help the police in their investigation."
