A FORMER Worcester resident has been appointed the first female chairman of Birmingham Press Club.
Llewela Bailey, who was brought up in the city and attended Christopher Whitehead School, has succeeded Heart breakfast show presenter Ed James, who is stepping down after four years in office due to his broadcasting and business commitments.
Ms Bailey, who used to co-present ITV Central News alongside Press Club president Bob Warman, is currently the host of BBC Radio WM’s Sunday Breakfast show and is also a part time lecturer at Staffordshire University’s journalism department.
Ms Bailey, who has been a member of the press club for 20 years and a board member for the past 11, said: "Having been involved with the Press Club as a member of the board I am absolutely thrilled at becoming the club’s first woman chairman.”
She added that her aims would include engaging more with media students, strengthening links with academia, and promoting events that will appeal to next generation journalists and broadcasters.
Birmingham Press Club was founded in 1865, making it the oldest press club in the world.
