TWO former year 11 students from Nunnery Wood High have beat tough competition to have a piece of their recent GCSE coursework exhibited.

The pair both entered their work in “The Art of Drawing” competition, which took place at Wolverhampton Art Gallery on Wednesday, September 21.

Mym Jelley and Emma Martin were shortlisted from more than 150 students from the Midlands.

Mym’s piece was a pencil drawing of a tiger and a lion’s head. Emma’s piece was of an old man’s face in biro against a map of Worcester.

Jamie Johnson, art teacher at Nunnery Wood High School, said: "The afternoon was lovely and seeing the girls work on display was fantastic.

"Both girls did an amazing job at being selected, with just a handful of students being chosen to have their work displayed.

"The icing on the cake was that Emma Martin was chosen as the overall winner!

"Both she and her mum were very proud, as I was.

"It is a great end to Emma's art journey at Nunnery.”

Emma was presented with her prize of vouchers and afternoon tea for two by the Mayor of Wolverhampton.
