POLICE are urging drivers to make sure they defrost their car windscreens properly before setting off.

Residents in Worcester are waking up to thick patches of fog this morning (Tuesday), and there has been a frost overnight.

The dense, freezing fog is making driving conditions difficult as visibility is poor and journeys are expected to take longer than usual.

Officers with the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) stopped a driver in the city who hadn't cleared the frost from their windscreen.

The group tweeted a picture of the car and said: "In Worcester this driver thought he could see clearly enough to drive. Our patrol thought otherwise. Clear your windows properly please"

It will remain cold throughout the day, with top temperatures of around 5C, while the fog will remain for much of the morning.
