WORCESTER firefighters were called to a car on fire in Merrimans Hill.

A crew from Worcester Fire Station attended the fire in Northbrook Close, at 9.30pm on Tuesday, (February 21).

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, and a hose reel to extinguish the fire near the canal.

A spokesman from Hereford and Worcester Rescue Service said police also attended the incident.

Worcester News reader Gem Morris sent an image of the dramatic incident, showing the vehicle was near to buildings at the time it was on fire.

She said her husband heard four loud bangs, as if someone had kicked over a dustbin, which must have been the car tyres exploding in the distance.

"Then he heard a car horn going off continuously, as if there had been a crash, and then he heard voices outside the house so he looked out to see the flames," Mrs Morris said.

"I arrived home about 9.45pm to see the blaze but by that time there was quite a few people who had come out of their houses."
