A BOOK of poems about kindness will be launched at a Pershore school event dedicated to the memory of a former pupil.

Pershore High school has invited parents and students to the school library from 7pm on Wednesday to launch Ten Poems of Kindness, an anthology allied to the Felix Campaign of Kindness.

The campaign was started by the mother of teenager Felix Alexander who died, aged 17, after taking his own life a year ago.

His mum Lucy wrote an open letter detailing the years of online bullying he had endured and calling on people to be kind to one another.

The open letter is included in the book, which has been edited by poet Jackie Kay, and includes two new poems she has written.

Even the cover illustration reflects the campaign, depicting elderflower, traditionally used to represent compassion and kindness.

Poems in the anthology include those by Fleur Adcock, Gwendolyn Brooks, Ian Duhig, Sarah Howe, Jackie Kay, Yusef Komunyakaa, Norman MacCaig, Sylvia Plath, Rabindranath Tagore and Kate Tempest.

The event is free but anyone wishing to attend is asked to email cc@pershore.worcs.sch.uk or td@pershore.worcs.sch.uk so the school has an idea of numbers.

Any donations will go to Place2Be, a young people's mental health charity.
