Starting school.

That moment when the little bundle that you have helped to grow, nurture and love for the past four to five years continues that journey of growth without you.

It is a time of mixed emotions for all involved and I want to show you how to make that transition easier for both of you.

My name is Sharon, but I am better known as Panda, because I own Panda-Education, a website aimed at supporting parents through the transition to starting school.

I am a qualified infant teacher, but I set up my website because I saw the process from a parental point of view, and as a result, I offer tips, support and advice from my insights on both sides of the school gate.

My main tips as a parent are to be prepared, be patient, be flexible and buy a calendar!

*Be prepared: Uniforms, PE kit, forest school kit, bookbags, shoes, water bottles... what does your child need? Check the school’s list and search around for cheaper alternatives – the uniform will be well used in school, so don’t spend all your money on branded items, but combine logoed jumpers with supermarket t-shirts etc.

*Be patient: Your child will experience a multitude of new things when they start school. Take snacks when you pick them up and don’t barrage them with questions despite wanting to know everything about their day. They will be exhausted!

*Buy a calendar: Parties, parties and more parties. Plus school assemblies, trips… I have a calendar just for my children! It’s a lot to remember. Be flexible.

I would love to support you on this magical journey.

I promise you that your child’s teacher is as excited (and nervous) to meet you as you are!
