IT'S yet another scorcher out there in Worcestershire today.

Temperatures in Worcester are already reaching 28C and forecasters say we are on course to hit highs of 31C later on this afternoon.

But enjoy it while it lasts – as it seems the run of scorching hot days is finally coming to an end.

While the county now looks set to escape the rain and storms heading for parts of the UK, tomorrow will be cloudy and much cooler – with temperatures peaking at a more moderate 21C.

Britain is today experiencing its hottest summer solstice on record as a heatwave grips the country for a fifth day.

Temperatures have reached 32.3C in Charlwood, Surrey, outstripping the previous record for the longest day of the year, when 31.7C was recorded in Camden Square, London, in 1936.

It is also the fifth consecutive day above 30C in the UK, with the mercury climbing into the 30s in a number of places, making it the hottest prolonged spell in June since the drought summer of 1976, the Met Office said.

But there are also weather warnings in place for this afternoon and evening, with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for parts of southern Scotland, northern England, north Wales and the Midlands.

The Met Office is warning of the potential for torrential downpours, frequent lightning, very large hailstones and strong gusts of wind, which could lead to localised flooding and temporary disruption of power supplies.

A cold front is set to sweep across the UK overnight into Thursday, bringing much more cloud and a fresher feel to the weather, the forecaster said.
