LOTTERY grants have been awarded to good causes in Worcester, including a project to provide emergency accommodation for young homeless people in the city.

The Big Lottery Fund will pay out more than £5.5 million towards 257 projects in the region, including several in Worcester. Across England, 1,903 projects are sharing in more than £50 million of National Lottery funding through this latest round of investment.

Fortis Living has been awarded £332,083 to support the South Worcestershire Nightstop and Mediation in Worcester.

The project aims to provide emergency accommodation and support to young homeless people aged 16-25. Issues which lead to their homelessness will be addressed and preventative support will be given to young people at risk of homelessness.

Individuals will be provided with a safe environment with access to food, shower and washing facilities with support 'tailored to their individual needs'. This will be delivered through advice and access to interventions such as counselling.

Bishop Perowne CE College has been awarded £9,800 to help with the mental and physical health of students. The funding will help improve nutrition and physical activity sessions for young people, training staff in mental health and physical wellbeing.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church will be awarded £10,000 for a replacement kitchen.

The kitchen is no longer fit for use and beyond repair. The improvements will allow the continued use of the kitchen for community events and activities.

Worcester Snoezelen has received £9,100 for an interactive installation, supporting disabled people who face barriers to accessing public wellbeing services.

The aim is to improve their health and wellbeing.

Young Solutions Worcestershire has been awarded £9,216 for “Goals for Life”, providing drop in sessions and advice for migrants who are living with the effects of addiction.
