VANDALS ripped bricks from a historic bridge and hurled them into the river.

Police are appealing after a number of bricks were removed from Powick Old Bridge in the Powick area of Worcester and thrown into the River Teme.

The bridge is of particular importance due to its historic connections to the Battle of Powick Bridge during the English Civil War, and is listed under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act, 1979.

The incident happened sometime between 10am on Sunday and 8.30pm on Monday.

Police would like to speak to anyone who has any information or anybody who may have witnessed how the damage was caused.
