THREE parks in Worcester are in the running to be crowned the best in the UK.

Fort Royal Park, Gheluvelt Park and the Diglis Field and Cherry Orchard Nature Reserve are all shortlisted for the title of UK's Best Park.

The competition, organised by Fields in Trust, gives the public the chance to vote for its favourite park ahead of the award ceremony at Lord's Cricket Ground on Wednesday, November 29.

Cllr Alan Feeney, vice chair of the environment committee at Worcester City Council, said: "It is fantastic that three of our parks have been nominated as best UK park this year, and is a real testament to the variety and popularity of our green open spaces in Worcester.

"Our parks are some of the city’s most precious assets, giving people of all ages the opportunity to exercise and socialise - as well as being tranquil havens for peace and reflection."
