Black Friday has seen no frenzied fights over bargains in Worcester so far.

Although many shops around the High Street, the Shambles and Crowngate were displaying advertising banners proclaiming the day’s bargains, shoppers themselves seem not to be moved by the excitement that the day – introduced from the USA – generated a few years ago.

One shopper, laden with bags outside Argos in the Shambles, said that she had been buying items for a house move, but although she was pleased that Black Friday bargains were available, she would have had to make the purchases anyway.

Nationally the data suggests that more people are doing their shopping online.

Big companies such as Argos, Waterstones and Dixons Carphone said that Black Friday is good news for shoppers and retailers alike.
