'THE Supernatural in the English Civil War' is the subject of a talk in the Great Hall of the Commandery in Sidbury, Worcester, next month.

The Battle of Worcester Society continues its Civil War Nights 2018 programme with a talk by Professor Darren Oldridge of the University of Worcester on Thursday, June 7 at 7pm.

The English Civil War produced an unprecedented interest in what today we would call the 'supernatural', including reports of 'signs and wonders' in the skies, appearances of spirits, and other extraordinary events.

Interest in magic of all kinds was especially strong.

The age was also marked by intense anxiety about the Devil, and witnessed the only large-scale witch trials in English history.

The Commandery Cafe will be open from 6pm with the talk starting at 7pm. Tickets are £7, £3 for students and £5 for Battle of Worcester Society members. They can be obtained from the Commandery Shop, the Tourist Information Centre, The Battle of Worcester Society on 01905 358640 or on the door on the night.

All are welcome.
