What a weekend it will be in Worcester!

If you fancy a quite stroll around the city, without crowds or excitement, well perhaps, this isn’t; your lucky Saturday.

The city’s streets will be transformed into a world-class sporting venue as it is host to the finish of the fourth stage of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour.

Crowds will be lining the route for 80 miles from the start in Evesham as the race winds its way through the county, with climbs at Snowshill and Atch Lench and a sprint at Inkberrow.

Thousands of people are expected to see the race in Worcester, as it reaches the city, skirts it on the A4440 then arrows into to the centre down London Road, past the Cathedral and over Worcester Bridge for a sprint finish outside the Worcester News building.

Hylton Road itself will be closed all day tomorrow, and a 30-minute rolling roadblock will be closing the route along the way. For more on the road closures visit roadworks.org.

Meanwhile, there will be a number of exciting activities to look out for. Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum is launching a new Ice Age exhibition, celebrating half a million years and focused on the arrival in the county of our ancestors, until the end of the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago. A woolly mammoth will be cycling around the city on a bike, to promote the exhibition.

Ice Age the film is being screened from 11am on a big screen in Cathedral Square, while Grease is being is shown at 7pm tomorrow, ensuring no clash with the cycling. On Sunday there will be a screening of Jumanji (2017) from 1pm.

The University of Worcester is giving cyclists the chance to try out their 50 electric bikes. This free activity takes place at the University’s riverside campus tomorrow.

At 11am, the Rotary of Club of Worcester’s Sandwich Board March will be marching from the Guildhall.

And by the river at South Quay there will be festival celebrating Worcester’s river and canals. The event includes free performances by Matuki, Hotsteppas, the new Worcestershire Poet Laureate, and a dancing workshop.

Further afield there is also Droitwich Food Festival tomorrow, and the Three Counties Show also happening throughout the weekend.
