CANCER Research UK is urging people in Worcester to get together with family members, friends and work colleagues for this year’s Relay For Life.

Teams of between eight to 15 people, of all ages, gender and fitness ability, are needed to take part in the 24-hour event at Top Barn Activity Centre in Holt Heath, near Worcester, during the weekend of September 8 and 9.

This is the fifth time Relay For Life has taken place in the area.

Lezley Moran, volunteer chairman of Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life in Worcester, said: “Relay For Life is a great way to spend time with your friends, family and colleagues while raising money for a truly worthwhile cause.

“Taking part in Relay For Life is about being part of a community united in the belief that it can make a difference and help beat cancer.”

Participants are asked to raise as much money as possible in the months leading up to the event through a wide range of fund-raising activities and securing donations from friends, families and work colleagues.

During the event, team members take it in turns to walk round a track while others enjoy a wide range of activities.

At dusk the poignant Candle of Hope ceremony begins, when bags decorated with messages in memory or in celebration of loved ones are filled with sand and lit with candles around the boating lake at Top Barn.
