A STUDENT from Worcester is set to be the poster boy of a campaign aimed at encouraging sports clubs to open their doors for free.
The 20-year-old has now been picked as a volunteer ambassador for the Join In programme, which takes place on August 18 and 19, and will be appearing in a series of national advertising campaigns for the event.
He said: “I think the Join In program will be a great motivator for people who otherwise would not normally take part in physical activity.
“Whether you are disabled or able-bodied, the Join In weekend on August 18 and 19 will be an ideal opportunity to try a new sport within a friendly environment.”
Join In is a government-funded charity aiming to encourage sports clubs across the UK to open their doors for free for the Join In weekend.
Among the clubs in the city taking part are Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club and Worcester Judo Club, which is running judo for beginners sessions. There is also a 5km timed run at Worcester Woods Country Park.
The scheme will be an opportunity for both budding volunteers and young people looking to try their hand at a new sport. For more information on the campaign, visit joininuk.org.
