Concerns that a child will be hurt by same dog

A DAD attacked by an “out of control” dog as he rode his bike fears the animal will attack children.
Mitchel Phillips was riding his mountain bike from his home in Wichenford to his mum’s partner’s house at Green Farm, Monkwood Green, near Hallow, when two dogs came running towards him, barking.
One of the animals, which Mr Phillips believes was a golden retriever, clamped its jaws around his lower right leg, leaving him with a deep puncture wound during the incident on Tuesday.
Mr Phillips, aged 21, of Queens Estate, Wichenford, said he wanted to warn other people about the dogs, especially children who might be visiting nearby Monkwood Nature Reserve. He said: “There were no signs of aggression. One of the dogs just clamped onto my leg as I was about to pat it on the head.
“I came to stroke it and it just latched on and held on for at a couple of seconds. I have a great big hole in my leg. The dog completely tore through the skin and fat on my leg.”
Mr Phillips was taken to accident and emergency at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester for his wound to be cleaned, stitched and bandaged.
Mr Phillips has a daughter, Lily, five.
He said: “If nothing gets done it’s going to happen to someone else. I just want to warn people about them. The dogs need to be put down.
“I’m a dog owner and if my dog did anything like that I would take it straight down to the vets. This would have been a lot worse if it had happened to a kid.”
His mother, Jayne Phillips, said: “The owner of the dogs has not even phoned to see how he is. They jump up at your car and try to bite your tyres. They are never on a lead. She can’t control them.”
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: “We can confirm we have received a report of a man being bitten by a dog on Monkwood Common.”
A meeting was held between Mr Phillips and police on Friday as part of an ongoing investigation.

Dog walkers really need to sort their mutts out. I've been chased when riding my bike round Pitchcroft. Luckily in that case I had the pace to get away from it but if I were a child I wouldn't have had a chance. And the owners themselves always laugh of any suggestions of malice from the dogs claiming they're "only playing" or some other ridiculous defence of their out of control animal. I personally think it should be law that all dogs no matter where they are, should be kept on a lead. I'd quite happily police the law, shotgun in hand, should it be put into place.

I agree mostly with what you have said but in the story he admits to going to stroke the dog while his mother reports that the dogs jump up at cars, try to bite tyres and that the owner cannot control them,so why why why did he try to stroke them ? --Yes something needs to be done and it cannt continue to happen but if you know a dog is unruly then don't approach it.I own a dog and would not like to muzzle mine but if that's what it takes then so be it,even if mine would just lick you to pieces ;-)

it used to be law that all dogs should be on a lead when out but it got changed - so i was told- that they just had to be under control. these dogs clearly are not. all dog owners annoy me by saying they're dogs are fine with children and won't bite you it may be fine with your own children but take it to children it doesn't know and the story will be different and as for not biting how does it eat
