Worcester dancer Samm appeals for help to fund his big chance

A WORCESTER dancer who needs £10,000 to fund a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study in New York is appealing for help.

Samm Price, of Perdiswell, has been offered a place at the Broadway Dance Centre in New York and is due to fly out today.

But his sponsorship, which would fund his time in the Big Apple, has fallen through at the last minute.

Mr Price will be unable to go to America if he cannot get someone else to give him about £10,000 to cover his accommodation and living costs by Tuesday.

The dancer, who performed in the UK tour of Hello, Dolly! alongside Anita Dobson and Darren Day, said he is hoping a local business or individual interested in the arts will help him out with the money, which will be tax deductible.

He said: “I found a sponsor but his company couldn’t get the money processed in time. “I have managed to raise the money for the flight and the tuition is funded by the centre. “I can’t work out there as I don’t have the correct visa.

“I have tried all the routes in the industry. “I know this is a long shot to come up with anything but I don’t want to close all the avenues before I try and walk down them.

“This is my opportunity to study in the Land of Dreams, and learn from some of today’s greatest choreographers and teachers. The doors it will open is enormous. “It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and to be on the receiving end of such an offer is almost unheard of.

“I am happy for someone to pay the accommodation directly, I appreciate any concerns so any way they would be happy to do it would be fine.”

Mr Price was born and brought up in Worcester, attending Bishop Perowne High School. He spent seven years performing a variety of shows with both WODS and WODYS before moving to London to train at Doreen Bird College for dance, music and theatre for three years.

If I had 10 grand to spare, I,d go myself. One hell of a long shot to get that kind of money, but I wish him well.
