Albert Road, Ledbury - Street Party

Worcester News: Albert Road, Ledbury - Street Party

11:17am Thursday 7th June 2012

A Diamond Jubilee street party was held on Sunday on Albert Road, Ledbury. Despite some showers and the cold, the street turned out in force for a super street party. The children tucked into homemade sandwiches and treats whilst the adults enjoyed a glass of Pimms. The hat competition was judged by Ledbury Mayor, Cllr Phil Bettington, an Albert Road resident. Organiser Brenda Hill said that it was a marvellous occasion and that she cannot remember there ever being a street party before in Albert Road. The party also gave many neighbours the chance to meet, many for the first time. One resident had lived in the street for over 70 years whilst others had only recently moved in. Another older resident wore her MBE proudly saying, "there aren't that many occasions when you can wear it". Everyone had a name and house number badge, so that made it all a bit easier. The photo shows the children sitting down to their Jubilee picnic.

On Sunday 3rd June Cowleigh Road had a street party. It was an extremely wet day, there were torrents of water running down the sides of the road and the rain was pouring down. The road was decorated with lots of bunting criss-crossing the street and the barriers even had balloons! There were lots of games to play, but everyone took shelter in The Star. There were tables groaning with food. The Town Crier opened the party and everyone danced in the rain in the road.

Worcester News: Whatever the Weather

7:39pm Tuesday 5th June 2012

Well, what can i say. Hinton on the Green should be proud; with over 70 villagers turning out in the pouring rain to Celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee. With no village hall to turn to we had to make do with very leaky party tents and gazebos but it didn't stop the fun. A fantastic selection of food was provided by villagers young and old. Clare Davies and Mandy French (Organisers) would like to thank each and everyone for enduring the rain and making our village party a great success.

Mickleton 2012 Celebrations

12:47pm Tuesday 5th June 2012

The residents of Mickleton enjoyed four days of events to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Saturday was a Family Day with a children's fancy dress parade and children's games. Then, on Sunday, part of the road in the centre of the village was closed off for the Big Lunch, with a barbecue and cold buffet and a demonstration of line dancing, which was well supported and enjoyed by all in spite of the rain. The better weather on Monday brought out the crowds to picnic in the 12 Acre field, listen to the music provided by two bands, bounce on the inflatables and finally watch the beacon being lit on Meon Hill, followed by a magnificent firewirk display. The fourth day, Tuesday, was devoted to exhibitions of various aspects of village life held in four different venues and ending with a village treasure hunt, Based on information supplied by Maureen Shears.
