AN award-winning Worcester florist is a step closer to being named the best flower shop in the country.

Earlier this year, Beautiful Flowers in New Street recei-ved a silver award for excellence from the Flower Council of Holland. Now, the company, run by Katherine Bujanszki, is the proud owner of a gold award for excellence. Only 23 florists reach this stage of the competition and they will compete for four platinum places and, ultimately, to be named national winner.

Miss Bujanszki said: "We are delighted to have made it through to this next round. We have been astounded by the fabulous feedback we've had from customers and local businesses. Winning the silver award in August has encouraged us to promote and develop our business."

Beautiful Flowers has recently employed a new florist, Charlotte Bardon, who relocated from Brighton, West Sussex, especially to work at the shop. Every year hundreds of shops enter the Flower Shop of the Year compeition.

Miss Bujanszki, who opened the business three years ago, said she was extremely proud to be representing Worcester on a national scale. The shop, which is located in a 16th century building, is fast-gaining a reputation for creating contemporary floral designs and selling unusual, exotic plants.

The winner of Flower Shop of the Year will be announced in January 2008.
