NORTH Midlands Under 16 prop forward Ryan Furniss played for the ‘Reds’ in their 20-20 draw with the ‘Blues’ in a divisional festival trial match at Broadstreet RFC, near Coventry.
Furniss, a pupil at Chantry High School, Martley, near Worcester, was one of 44 players who were given a further opportunity to impress the England Under 16 selectors after the opening divisional festival at Moseley two weeks ago.
The training match was played in two 25-minute periods and a third of 20 minutes with some crossover between the sides.
The England selectors will now name a 60-strong squad for another development weekend at Cokethorpe School in Oxfordshire from February 6 to 8.
After the training weekend, the England selectors will name England Under 16 senior and ‘A’ squads to prepare for the international programme later in the season.
