WORCESTERSHIRE County Council is hosting a sustainability event to share its best practice in tackling climate change with local authorities across the country.

The county council is running the event next Tuesday, at the Bishops Wood Centre, to share its experience of responding to climate change through Learning for Sustainability.

The county council was awarded a Beacon Authority Award last year, as a result of its innovative, best practice work in tackling climate change.

As a Beacon Authority, the council has a responsibility to share its experiences and best practice with other local authorities.

Delegates attending the event from local authorities and organisations from all over the country will participate in talks and workshops on a variety of areas including:

• Supporting the development of sustainable schools (including eco schools) and Learning for Sustainability around a whole school approach

• Designing and building a sustainable school

• Energy Management in schools

• Linking to curriculum development and the global dimension

• Outdoor and environmental learning

Faye Walters, assistant Learning for Sustainability officer, said: “Last year, we won Beacon Authority status for our work tackling climate change.

“We hope that the Learning for Sustainability event will provide a great opportunity to share how we have supported schools across Worcestershire in responding to the challenge of climate change and in becoming more sustainable.

“It will also be a great opportunity to learn about the experiences of other local authorities around Learning for Sustainability, too.”
