THE best and brightest in Worcestershire food and tourism have been honoured at the first ever county-wide ceremony.
Winners of the new Worcestershire Welcome awards were applauded by their peers at the Fusion Brasserie, in Stoulton, near Pershore, on Wednesday, June 10.
In total there were six awards spread between four winners, who have now set the bar for next year’s event.
The awards were set up by Destination Worcestershire and backed by your Worcester News, which is currently also running the Buy Local campaign.
Rod Nipper, Destination Worcestershire’s manager, said the awards proved there was huge support for championing the unsung heroes of the county’s tourism.
He said: “We were delighted with the level of interest and the high quality of entries, together with numbers, for the awards – especially as this was the first year we have run them.”
“It’s important to recognise businesses that make a real effort with their quality and commitment on an on-going basis to ensure visitors to the county get the best possible experience.
“We look forward to the awards being a regular feature of the tourism calendar and look forward to the 2010 Worcestershire Welcome Awards.” Hundreds of nominations were received, with more than 650 votes cast in the Eat and Drink category alone.
