WORCESTER City need to put their FA Cup disappointment behind them and focus on securing three Nationwide North points at Hyde United, according to Andy Preece.

City missed out on a money-spinning first round trip to Chesterfield after losing 7-6 on penalties against Basingstoke Town on Tuesday.

But player-manager Preece wants his team to put that failure out of their minds and bounce back in Cheshire.

He said: "They are are going to be really disappointed because they have let the opportunity go.

"They will feel that we were the better team and we have got beaten by an inferior team. But we are not feeling sorry for ourselves because that's gone now and all we can do is look to the future.

"It's a pretty tough game at Hyde. They are probably one of those teams who will be challenging with the money they have spent. They didn't have a great start but they are getting into some form and hopefully we can go and get a performance and a result."

Preece has promised to ring the changes following the FA Cup exit as he attempts to find an answer to City's penchant for losing games he believes they should win.

The boss says every area of the pitch is under scrutiny but he doesn't expect any transfer activity before the weekend.

However, Chris Cornes and Danny Hodnett have given him cause for concern after suffering knee and ankle injuries respectively in Wednesday's 1-1 reserves draw with Kidderminster Harriers. Youth-teamer James Robins scored City's goal.

Defender Dennis Pearce remains an injury doubt for the Hyde match as he continues to struggle with a groin problem.

Preece said: "I still think it needs freshening up. I just think we need to keep people on their toes and hungry.

"The majority of efforts teams have against us are from long range. We must have got behind Basingstoke on five or six occasions and not got a shot on target.

"We are not getting that end product and it's not easy to get in behind defenders."

City have had just two Nationwide North games on the road since the 1-0 success at Workington on September 1 - defeats at Vauxhall Motors and Hucknall Town.

The team has slipped to 12th after just one league victory in their last four attempts, but they have games in hand on the sides above.

Preece added: "We have been away from league action for a little bit now and it will be nice to get back."

Hyde will be without Lincoln Adams and Nathan Wharton through suspension after both were sent off in the 2-0 home victory over Hinckley United two weeks ago.

But they may give a debut to Michael Taylor after the central defender moved from Barrow this week.

Meanwhile, Worksop Town caretaker boss Ian Bowling has been named joint Nationwide North manager of the month with Kettering Town's Morell Maison.
