FORMER England international Marieanne Spacey is set to bring a boost to women's football in Worcestershire.

The ex-Arsenal and Fulham Ladies striker is joining Worcestershire Football Association as girls and women's football development officer from Monday.

During her career, Spacey was capped 91 times by England and scored 28 goals, including against Canada in the World Cup in Sweden during 1995.

The striker played for Arsenal for most of her career before joining Fulham in 2003, who she went on to manage for three seasons.

As well as her playing credentials, the 40-year-old is working towards her A' license FA coaching badge.

Andy Norman, football development manager for Worcestershire FA, said: "I am extremely pleased with this signing.

"Marieanne will be inspirational as a role model for all female footballers and coaches in Worcestershire.

"She now forms the final part of our development team and will be looking to further develop opportunities available for girls and women, including those at the Kidderminster Harriers Centre of Excellence, Kidderminster Women's County League, charter standard schools and clubs."
