Kidderminster Harriers put on the spot
KIDDERMINSTER Harriers have appointed a new penalty taker – but boss Steve Burr is keeping his identity secret.
Lee Vaughan was the team’s regular spot-kick specialist this season, scoring in the 4-2 FA Cup victory at Grimsby Town last month, but has asked to be stood down following his miss in the 2-2 draw at Woking last Tuesday.
The right-back will now be replaced for penalties when Harriers are next awarded one which could be against Nuneaton TOwn in the Blue Square Bet Premier at Aggborough today (3pm).
Burr has hinted the job could go to one of his strikers – Ryan Rowe, Anthony Malbon or Nathan Blissett, who scored both goals at Woking.
He said: “We've had a look and I have spoken to one lad in particular who wants to take them, so he’ll get the job – but you’ll have to wait and see if we get one.
“I like to see the forwards taking penalties because it is a great opportunity for them to score from a dead ball and, when I was playing, I always wanted to take them.”
Burr added: “The boys do practice penalties during the week. But Lee has actually been to see us – he wants a break from taking them and we respect that.”
