HEREFORD United chairman David Keyte says the cash-strapped club are not about to rest on their laurels, despite FA Cup success.
The Bulls will bank £30,500 in prize money from last Saturday’s 3-1 victory against Shrewsbury and the win in the previous round against FC United of Manchester.
There is also about another £21,000 from gate receipts and television highlights to swell the coffers at Edgar Street from the Shrews win.
However, it has not solved Here-ford’s troubles – they still have tax bills to pay, including £45,000 in VAT – and Keyte acknowledges there is plenty of work to be done.
He said: “We have to restructure the club because the gates are not reaching the break-even figure and we are having talks this week.
“The football club costs £25,000 per week to run and we are just paying the wages at the moment.”
Donations from fans have brought in £22,000 and Keyte will hope United can cash in on their FA Cup second-round trip to Cheltenham on December 1.
He added: “Beating Shrewsbury was a great day for us for obvious reasons and it gives us a bit of a financial lifeline.
“We’re not getting ahead of ourselves but it’s every small club’s dream to get a big draw in the third round. Cheltenham went away to Tottenham in the cup last season and when Crawley went to Manchester United, they cleared £1million.”
